there's something missing these days; really good writing. i'm not sure what happened or when exactly most of the things i read became crap, but it's now undeniable. i know there was a time when i read a number of really fascinating, well-written webjournals; most of those have now gone defunct, are updated rarely, or have become crappy. there are exceptions, one or two, and i try to link to those and give them credit where it is so painfully due.

i guess the prompt for this was looking at a webjournal that i used to read religiously and now only look at for sentimental reasons and realizing that what was once subtle, nuanced, interesting and always beautifully written just isn't anymore. it kind of sucks.

i guess my question is, where is all the really good writing on the web? i'll show you mine if you'll show me yours.

well, here's a hint. those who are good know it and hear that they are often from me.

I think the best writers are tortured with insecurity, or maybe that's just me (someone who's not that great a writer, hence the insecurity, but still, I've known good writers and...)

This being the case, none of them are going to declare themselves present for your perusal.

i wasn't expecting lots of people to claim that *they* were great writers. what i was hoping for to get "i love reading this journal, check it out." something along those lines, although shameless self-promotion is *always* welcome in my journal.
